Lead Testing

Lead was used in paint and building materials for decades, and homes finished before the 1980s can still carry it, most often in old paint layers hidden under newer coats. Intact, painted-over lead is usually low risk, but sanding, scraping, cutting, or demolition during a renovation can release lead dust and chips that are hazardous, especially to young children.

Lead testing is often a small, sensible step before renovation or restoration in an older property. When it is part of a covered loss and repair, it can fall under that claim; when it is part of a planned renovation, it is usually a project cost.
